Is my PSI dangerously high?

I’m seeing 30+ PSI on steam system Weil-McLain boiler. Should I be concerned about this? I don’t know too much about these systems, but I thought it should be normally running at 2-5 psi. Just wondering if there is a bomb sitting in the basement of my school building. Is this normal, or is my gauge broken, or should I shut it off and make a service call? I’ve had it turned off for about twenty minutes and the pressure hasn’t dropped, I’m thinking broken gauge?

And for just a little more context. It’s a two pipe system, and the Pressuretrol is set to 12 psi.

Something isn’t right. If you truly 30 psi, your relief valve should’ve blown, because that’s rated for 15 psi.

Also your pressuretrol is way too high. At those settings you should be having major problems.

    Check the gauge 1st.

It is a school. Call for service. It could be a gage that should never have reached 30 psi to begin with. Let them check the rating on relief valve. Then check your pressuretrol because that should have turned off the boiler.

Verify the pigtails are not blocked, replace the gauge if needed.

Where do you get 12 PSI from ? What is the differential set to inside the Pressuretrol ?

I agree here. The gauge might be cooked but def check the pigtail

Thanks everyone for the help! I turned the boiler off and had it off for a few hours and it was still reading 30+ psi, so I’m guessing that means broken gauge? But regardless, I’m calling for service tomorrow morning just in case, and at least they’ll be able to give me a definitive answer, and they can replace the gauge if necessary. I dialed the Pressuretrol down to 5 (it was to the right of the picture I posted), and turned the thermostat down to 50 degrees just to keep pipes from freezing tonight.

And thanks for those who said the Pressuretrol was set too high. I’ll ask our regular HVAC guys about it, maybe there’s some weird reason for it to be too high, but I’m thinking it might have been contributing to some radiator problems I’m having at the end of the line.

    Thanks again!

Take a picture of the device you are fiddling with. Is it a manual reset Pressuretrol ? In which case the one you took the first picture of is the operational Pressuretrol and the manual reset Pressuretrol is just a backup in case the other fails.
