Hello i have white on my peerless boiler cover no where else just on the cast iron cover. Is this a problem? The original black has been i guess burned off during the years is this normal? I just had a clean and tune and it passed with flying colors and the draft was excellent. Just curious thank you. Also i have 2 screws in the boiler cover should these be loose or should i tighten them? Thanks to all for their time i know these might be simplistic questions but im not a HVAC guy.

If its baked off because its a hot spot, then its far from normal. Borrow a phone for pics and upload to whatever your using.

Is it gas? Is it oil? Is it rollout? Is it impingement? Dirty burner tube? Postive over fire draft? Old and worn? Let's see.

If you have a digital camera, you can upload pics from that as well.

It's exceedingly difficult to guess what a picture is showing from a description of "white stuff". It could be nothing, even likely nothing, But there's s small but non-zero chance it's something bad.

Get some pics uploaded somehow, or call someone to service it. There are ways that a failure can kill you.

It's a peerless model WBV-03 and i run oil not gas. I called my HVAC guy and he said its nothing to be worried about. I just wanted a second opinion. Its a 5 year old unit, whats impingement and positive over fire draft? I just had a clean and tune 2 months ago and draft was good. I had my chimney fixed 4 years ago and a lot of old bricks had fallen down the chimney and it was clogged for like 1 year before the HVAC guy came in and got it all out now the draft is good so im thinking during that time when it was clogged it burned off the paint on the front cover.

That's the inspection door. There's no insulation there so it feels the heat. Its fine. Just make sure the door is tight.

Yes did people think i was talking about the sheet metal covers? Mine is made of cast iron. Im talking about the black cast iron around the inspection door whats that called? Also both screws in the inspection door they have to be tight but not too tight right? And the top screw on the door keeps it on but what purpose does the second middle screw serve on the inspection door? No answers on this?

Does anyone know the answer to the questions above?

The middle screw gets removed to check over fire draft. Then the screw gets screwed back tight.
