Questions about a steam system

I’m newer to working on boilers and there were some things i saw on a steam system yesterday that i was not familiar with and wanted to see if anyone could let me know more about it.

1. This wall mounted pump attatched to the piping.

2. some of the radiators have the inlet at the top and others were at the bottom, with what appears to be a smushed air vent

3. Cut out pressure was set to 15 psi. (lowered it to 2psi)

Will need more pictures, especially of the boiler and piping connected to it, but are you sure its Steam? Mad Dog

I'm not at all convinced that that is a steam system. Modified gravity hot water, maybe? Which would explain the air vents on the radiators — and the 15 psig.

That pump and those air vents make it a hot water system. Reinstate 15psi pressure.

I want to see the front of the boiler…they left two pigtails and pressuretrolls on there if they did convert it

here are the rest of the photos i have. the 15psi relief valve and and sight glass made me believe it was steam but maybe there’s something that i don’t know. Radiators heated sufficiently when pressure was dropped to 2psi.

So, water is only half way up the gauge glass, but the system was heating?

I'd think it's pretty clear it's not a hot water system.

Steam only radiator, looks like it is only supported by the pipes.

Condensate return pump that was not really needed.

Thats not a condensate pump. Can't tell if that pump is hooked up or not.

Steam for sure maybe with a HW zone off it.

Look at those radiator return fittings- this is a Mouat Vapor system. @chrismus , where are you located? We know a Mouat expert in the Cleveland area- @gerry gill .

And whoever added those manual air bleeders is a knucklehead.

I'm thinking the circ was for DHW, an old indirect off previous boiler, or abandoned when last tank went, or

That is what I was originally thinking, but it looks like it is going up to one on the two paralleled pipes so I was thinking it was on the Steam condensate return side. Maybe there was a pipe pitch issue at one time. Looks like both valves are closed and the bottom pipe go nowhere.
