Turning off 1-pipe radiator valves.

Hello all,

I'm looking for an article or industry publication that advises not to turn off a 1-pipe steam heating radiator valve that I can link to or reprint for my students. Most of what I see online is from the websites of private contractors.

I think the one-pipe-steam valve should be exercised once at the start of each heating season, and then again in the spring. Otherwise, it should be left open. It’s a service valve, not a control valve. If the radiator is too hot, cover it.
