Hello,
I recently moved into quite an old house which appears to have a Grant Euroflame 50/70 oil boiler and noticed recently that there is steam coming from the valve at the side of the boiler (circled in red).
I will eventually need to have the boiler replaced as it looks in pretty rough shape in general but before arranging for someone to service/replace the boiler, I was wondering if anyone would know what this valve is and why steam may be coming out of it when the heating is on? (Sorry for the lack of information, I have pretty much zero knowledge of heating systems at all).
Thanks

It is a water boiler. I'll take some full photos tomorrow and post them here.

That's an air removal vent. Hot water systems use them. That one is in terrible shape…
Also, if there is steam coming out of it, the boiler controls are not working as they should and the boiler is getting too hot. Probably not seriously dangerous, but not good either.

i feel like the jacket is going to disintegrate when someone tries to clean it.
