Peerless ECT-03 vs WM SGO-3 vs Williamson OSB-3

Hi everyone, first time posting, long time lurking lol. Im looking for a oil fired boiler with a hot water coil as the coil in my current boiler blew out. (Boiler is still kicking, no leak, an older PB JOT-4-S). I did a EDR calculation and 3 section boiler is more than sufficient. Question is, what does everyone recommend between Peerless ECT-03, WM SGO-3 or Williamson OSB-3. Seems like they all have their positives and negatives. PB offers metal push nipples, 2-2" steam port, thicker casting while WM/Williamson offers 1- 2.5" (some say it's actually 2 ports) , rubber push nipples and slightly thinner casting?!?! The WM and Williamson are essentially the same boiler but why is the latter one $500 cheaper? I looked at Crown/Burnham Freeport/Megasteam 3 pass but are they worth the extra price tag? Thanks!

Stan

the coil can be replaced without getting a new boiler

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

Whichever… the quality and skill of the installer is at least as important as the label on the boiler.

Is the coil leaking? A bad coil is a horrible reason to replace a boiler. Buy an electric water heater and plug the coil.

Thanks, originally I was going to have the coil replaced, but the rust had eating away around the boiler section. While the boiler is fine for now, it's on its last leg. Water heater tank is not an option due to space and if I were able fit a water tank, I would need to upgrade the electrical panel or go with a hybrid unit and shove it in the upstairs closet.

The contractor is more important than the brand name of the boiler. Look at the google reviews and discount the bad ones form folks that don't want to pay for quality work. Look at the ones that say what a good job the contractor did, or the ones that say than they had a problem but the contractor stuck with it.

Stay away from the contractor that can't solve the problem and just stop returning calls.

The JOT wasn't great when they where new, so it lived a long life. I would go with the MegaSteam.
