curled wire connected to gas valve

I have a 3 foot wire that connects from the controller to the gas valve. Due to years of overheating on the boiler jacket likely caused by the insulation peeling away, the wire insulation melted and the wire eventually broke. I replaced it with a 2 conductor power cord and routed it away from the boiler jacket so it is not exposed to high heat. My question is why is the wire connecting to the gas valve curled in this manner and is there a problem with replacing it with a straight wire. See pic. Thanks.

No problem. The installer just curled it up to make the appearance of extra wire neat.

Electricity must be made to spiral like a football in order to travel far enough to make it into the valve.

I believe that @Ironman might have a good point. However there is not science behind it. Pure conjecture. The real reason id that the original installed lost his job at the phone company. Back when the phones used to hang on the wall in the kitchen. He brung the wire coil trick with him when he started wiring up boilers.

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

AC voltage will go around corners because it ……well alternates.

DC is direct current it will only go in a straight line. LOL😊😊😊

Strain relief. It allows it to move a little and still look neat.

If the jacket is getting that hot you probably have rollout issues.

Allows the same cable to be used on a variety of applications. Some need longer/shorter etc.

Keeps the cable away from the jacket also. Gives extra wire if the ends need to be redone.
