I’m labelling my boiler parts so it is easy to follow etc. Can you suggest the “correct” wording for the labels. It is a home.

use the name of the part and direction of flow. Boiler, pump (circulator), supply, return.

I'm all for labels. Put them on all the valves to tell what they do. Put them on pumps — with flow direction. Put them on pipes with both flow direction and what is inside. There is no such thing as too many labels. Put them on controls.

Yes, a professional should know what's what, but… it's not always easy, and no one should ever have to guess. You don't have to be as fanatical about it as industry practice (no need to paint the pipes, for instance) or military practice, but….

when in doubt put a label on it.

If you post some pics of components you are unfamiliar with we may be able to suggest the correct label for them. It may help you understand the system a little better as well

Labels are fine. Especially for those who are not familiar or would like a quick look at what the item is used for.

Post a few pictures. Maybe we can help.

I just saw an engineering catastrophes about that last night. Turns out it was propane in plastic pipe under a building for some reason.

I don't know what this goes to! But I saved it for future study:

To cover this and other electrical sins, I keep a reference copy of 1959 NEC next to the fusebox. Break glass.
