Boiler crackling/popping - HELP

I have an old boiler (thought to be about 20 years old) planning on getting replaced within next few weeks so don't want to spend much to repair.
Has began making Kettling noises, and we have no hot water/heating and pressure has dropped low. Is it safe to just turn off and leave off til we have it replaced or is this an urgent thing that could be dangerous if left and needs to be looked at as soon as possible?
Looking for advice please, thanks in advance.

    Is it leaking water?

Shut off both the water fill valve and the gas should not be a problem. Shut off the electricity too.

We have turned it off at the mains for now.
It seems to be leaking a very small amount.

Is it safe to just leave off til we can get replaced (looking now to do this asap) or do we need to get someone out to look at this more urgently? (I'm clueless about boilers)

Safe enough to leave it turned off. Except you may be chilly...

Turn off any water feed to it, too -- in case a leak turns into a fountain.
