Purple primer mess

I was hooking up the condensate neutralizer on a boiler and I splatted purple primer on the new hot water tank.  Any suggestions on how to get that off?
Thanks Jeffrey

I have used clear acetone to get PP out of a concrete floor but it was very fresh. Give it a try in an inconspicuous spot on the HWH tho. That stuff is murder when there’s an accident.

Highly doubtful that it can be removed. Paint over it if it really bothers you.

We all know why they make purple primer. But **** the stuff makes a mess and there is no need for it.

You could try acetone, but it will soften the paint in the tank. It works best when if you get it early.

Kilz primer will conceal it. Dust a couple of light coats .

I keep a can on the truck for the occasional splash.

Spray paint..In Future...either tint the Glue with a small amount of Purple Primer to make the inspector happy or just use clear primer and save can to show him.  Mad Dog 🐕

Just leave it there. Kinda' looks like artwork.

If you mess with it, then it will really look bad.

if the shell is metal try lacquer thinner but the dye is intended to not come off to indicate that primer was used. you could probably sand it off of plastic.

Gumout is mostly Xylene with some Acetone.

I'd be surprised if it removes the stain without removing paint as well.

PVC primer is mostly MEK and some Acetone and likely melts the paint a little which is why the stain is impossible to remove. The color is literally part of the paint now.

    @Simply Rad

Haven't read through all of the posts so this might have been already suggested.

Use clear primer to clean off the purple. Just dauber it on and wipe it off repeatedly till it's gone.

You could just sign the water heater "Jackson Pollok" and maybe increase its value by a couple of thousand dollars.

I would’ve thought by now someone would have made a magic marker in primer color with smell added.

I must say. I have not and never will be a fan of purple primer , simply because of that little clever purple marker.
I LOVE IT !! Thank you for sharing this.
Some codes do not require purple primer because clear primer works just as well.
I know, I know it was pushed into a code because of dishonest or naive solvent weld practices.
    So I have wondered?
Are some code areas more code compliant and trustworthy than others? Why is it in one code and not the other? Hmm?
