Wall Heater Pilot lights but Burner does not. I hear the gas hiss.

I have an old dirty Wall Heater that has not been used in many years. I does have fairly new gas valve and controls. It has furnace controls on both front and back sides (two separate heaters, one on each side). The heater has not been used for many years. One side works perfectly. The other side the Pilot lights but Burner does not. I believe that I hear the gas start to hiss when I turn the thermostat up but burner does not ignite. Any ideas? Thanks.

Besides not using it? It since you hear gas hissing but it doesn't light? That's not good. Eventually that hissing gas will light, but likely not the way you want it to...

I'd suspect that the burner on the back side is really grubby. Everything from dust and dirt and rust to spider webs. I'd take the whole thing apart and clean it thoroughly for starters.

And get a CO detector in the room! If the heat exchanger has rusted you me be pumping carbon monoxide into the room.

A LOW LEVEL CO detector. Not the UL approved you’ll almost be dead before it alarms.
