Never allow an accountant unfettered access to engineering drawings, nothing good will come from it.

In fairness to Gorton, we've installed a couple of thousand of them and probably only had a handful ever fail. Never had that kind of result with any other vent.

Yes my situation is very anecdotal and I’m sure there was some weird shipping thing going on. We saw similar reports on this forum but I like Gorton

This. We buy the #2 by the dozen. The failure rate is small.

I have put B&J Big Mouth and G-2's on the same venting tree.

Quite possible that the company changed the flux that was used to assemble the vents, and mistakenly bought flux that was not non corrosive. Young kid just out of college thought he was going to save the company millions. Of course that is just speculation.

Inspired by @ethicalpaul I decided to open up a non-working MoM vent I had lying around. Like his, mine was stuck closed. No amount of shaking would loosen it up.

I used a hole saw to cut it open on the outside of the vent and found this:

The pin at the bottom of the "float" is resting on the bimetal strip. So different company, same problem. (But no flux left on the inside of mine.)

Here is what it should look like:

Now that I have a working vent (maybe), I think I'll put a window on it to seal it up and see how it works on a radiator. I am really trying to find out why another MoM vent I am using sometimes gets waterlogged and doesn't vent.

@Chris_L solder that thing back together and put it back in service! Now that I’d like to see!

There's no flux because there's no soldering on a MoM (which freaks some people out, but not me).

But are you sure that's a MoM?

You're right. Upon closer examination, it looks like the back is sealed with a crimp. Though there is a bit of soldering at the top of the valve where the valve for the air is:

And it is definitely a MoM. See the name on the cutout:

As I recall, it was bad out of the box and they sent me a replacement.
