Spray painting Motorcycle Fuel Tank Question

Hey all,

Quick question/ advice request.
I have a really clean vintage tank, Im doing a color change, so I am planning to just sand and break through the clear, clean, paint, shoot new clear.

Once I break through the clear, what's the best method to clean that existing base coat before shooting a new color? I have various stuff on hand, such as mineral spirits, good old dish soap, spray degreaser, vinegar, etc.

Thanks in advance,
P

Lacquer thinner wipe followed by a tack rag after it dries is usually my go-to. I definitely did not expect to see a question like this on HeatingHelp lol

Lacquer thinner might not be the best if it is lacquer. If it is enamel it should work well.

    Hello @electronictofu,

I think the auto body refinishing pros use a product like Prep-sol.

    I'm on several car forums.

I completely understand why this was asked here and everyone should take it as a compliment. ;)

This specific post is about a motorcycle, so you'll be really stretching it.

It is just an abbreviation of preparation solvent. The one I have from duplicolor isn't very aggressive and I would question how well it removes wax.
