Possibly -- but there would be no harm to trying to clean it first. But if that's from a leak, and not just crud over time, yeah...

I would suspect a leaking boiler. Clean the crud off and pressure test it first

Looks like a steam boiler that has rusted out above the waterline. If so, it's time for a moment of silence.

In the first pic, the return line near the floor that goes to the Hartford Loop looks like it's rusted out too.

Overfill the boiler up to the main piping (it will get cold, then stop).

Clean crud away and you may well see water exiting.

    Then you are certain.

    It’s a Burnham Independence that’s been murdered.

The murderer can be seen in the first picture 😉

    Where are you located @Niss3zx?

Again I am no plumber. I have a little knowledge. Should i fill boiler to top. Afraid to introduce new oxygenated water into system.  Any way of testing ?? Cleaned as best and vaccumed. Your thoughts if replacment is needed.

You MAY get a few more years out of it but do you really want it letting go on Christmas 🎄 Eve?  Chanukah? Get Johnny NY from Gateway/Toro out there.   They service Brooklyn and know The Steam...Mad Dog 🐕
