Steam pipes banging

Ok relatively new boiler, one pipe system, pipes pitched the right way but still banging pipes to radiator on second floor. Can hear surging sounds also
any suggestions

    “Relatively new”. Was it skimmed after installation?  If not that could be causing the surging.  The other potential cause is an improperly piped boiler.

    Pictures of the boiler and piping would help with the remote diagnosis.  Make sure you have pictures showing the boiler and piping in one shot from a couple different angles.

    The main solution that I found to eliminating water hammer / "radiator banging noises" / sloshing sounds in the pipes was to lower the steam pressure; you may find that the newly installed system was set too high. As "The Lost Art of Steam Heating" by Dan Holohan says, you should run on the lowest pressure that will effectively heat your radiators, and you might need to experiment a little to find out what that is. The system I have now (for a multi-unit condo building) was installed at 7psi, but after some tinkering, I now run at 0.75 psi (12 oz). It heats perfectly, and the water hammer is gone.
