Wiring timer into indirect water tank

I have a honeywell  aquastat  on my indirect . It's  wired into it on one of 4 zones on my taco switching  relay. How can I wire a timer into this, so I can shut it off during  night.

You would put the control contacts from the timer in series with the aquastat. You will need a timer where the contacts are isolated from whatever is powering the timer.

Note that a well insulated indirect probably won't cool enough to trigger a dhw call in 8 hours unless it was close to the cut in temp of the aquastat from a hot water draw or you are using some hot water during the night.

You could do this and place a timer on the oil valve or gas valve to see if there is a significant reduction in burner operation over the summer months when there is no call or heat. Maybe 2 months with timer active and 2 months without timer active. I bet you won't see a very big savings as @mattmia2 indicated

After you make that expensive repair and you still have the same problem, What will you check next?

I've got exactly the same situation! Can you tell me what timer you could use in this situation so I can explain to my plumber? He said it sounded possible but he doesn't know how to do it.

@mortyb It make no sense to shut the indirect off at night. If no one is up drawing water the boiler will probably hardly fire at all during the night at all.

The timer and the controls will cost more than any energy savings.
