    Just swap the cap and vent then. Should help.
    Trying to squeeze the best out of a Weil-McLain JB-5 running a 1912 1 pipe system.

    So steam leaves the boiler on the two main pipes with the vents?  Then condensation returns to boiler theoretically moving same direction as those pipes wrap around and return to the boiler?

    That's basically it -- in some ways steam is pretty simple.

    Probably not a bad idea for you to get "We've Got Steam Heat" or "The Lost Art of Steam Heating".

    Not a bad idea for a beginner to have both. We've got Steam Heat is more of a basic introduction to steam heat and some of the simpler homeowner very mild DIY things. Lost Art of Steam Heating is a really detailed discussion of all types of residential and small commercial steam heat systems. With it you could -- with patience -- really come to understand how the system really works.
