Has anyone had a boiler drain completely go on them? I just got home from work and went to the basement to get something out of the fridge and my feet were soaked, i start going around the basement and find the boiler drain letting out water and then the auto feeder adding water in a continuous cycle, at first i thought to tighten it but it was already tight. mind you this was full open, not a dripping scenario. Now i have the boiler draining so i can replace the valve. am i the only one who's experienced this? i always thought valves just leaked but not open on their own lol

I had one that was so corroded it looked like it might do that at any timeNJ Steam Homeowner. See my sight glass boiler videos: https://bit.ly/3sZW1el0

Does the stem still turn and move up and down or did the brass corrode right through? I suppose the washer could disintegrate, especially if there was a slow leak or depending on water chemistry the brass could dezincify and crumble.0

Getting away from Lead has caused issues with brass.Replace with non potable valves that contain lead or Stainless Steel.0
