Interesting 3 year old thread.
I guess I need to add that the in house training shop at F. P. Young Company took one of those out of a customers home and installed it in that training shop along with a General Electric, and two other boilers that were connected to the office's heating radiator system. This way we could learn on live firing units. The most efficient to operate when there was no class operating other boilers, was the General Electric.
Can't tell you the manufacturer of the "pancake" boiler at the shop, because many other companies made that design including Weil and American Radiator. I just know that it was set up with both Hot water controls with a circulator pump, and with Steam controls with a steam riser that would just blow off into the parking lot (kind of like the Weil McLain glass pipe boiler on the trailer)
