Difference between these two fittings? (FTG vs FTG Press)

I need to get a MIP to FTG fitting so it can be inserted into a press fitting. I thought a normal copper fitting would do but there is also a FTG press version as the following:

1. https://www.supplyhouse.com/JW-50045-1-FTG-Press-x-Male-Copper-Street-Adapter
2. https://www.supplyhouse.com/Elkhart-30452-1-FTG-x-Male-Street-Adapter

Can someone tell me what's the exact difference between the two? Would the much cheaper FTG work when inserted in a press fitting?

Wow! $24 for the press version that look the same. FYIW, I've used the standard MPT - copper street in exactly the situation you describe.

I wonder if it a uniformity issue. Sometimes standard FTG's are not as uniform as a pipe.

Buy the cheaper one I have used them in that situation and they work fine for press or sweat.

Viega fittings, they don't give them away, way overpriced

The 1'' male to press adapter is less than $10 (https://www.supplyhouse.com/Viega-79245-1-ProPress-x-Male-Bronze-Adapter-Lead-Free), but the male to FTG press is almost three times as expensive and doesn't have the O-ring, I don't understand.

Edit: I called Viega tech support, not helpful the answer they provided.

Either one will work. They both are fittings with a make pipe thread. A press elbow (which has an O ring) or a sweat elbow will fit over the end of the adapter.

If you want a fitting the copper tubing fits into (like a socket) then you want a copper x male adapter or a press x male adapter

If you want a fitting that fits into a fitting then you want a copper fitting x male adapter or a pres fitting x male adapter.

It can be confusing and pictures don't show everything

The difference that I have seen is that the Viega is much heavier. I use the cheaper of the two. There's really no difference when it comes to the installation.

The male insert is longer on the press fitting. On some of the sweat ones, the insert barely goes in past the o ring leaving the copper only crimped on one side.

But four times the price is rediculous.

FWIW, that's not a Viega fitting. It's an Everflow fitting.

We have been using the regular FIP x street adapters for years and never had a problem.
