Wow. I'm just a homeowner but that is pretty....creative. How far into the mains is it copper, or is it all of it? And if this isn't leaking I'd be amazed.
It looks like the same company that piped this boiler piped mine also. Thankfully they must have run out of copper before they came to my house and had to get creative with black pipe instead.0 -

The higher you place the pressure gauge, the lower the pressure. Just have a stepladder handy for when you need to read it
