Drop Header

Looking at a steam job. The current boiler uses a drop header. Has 2 risers come up about 30” above water line. Then drop down to header which is about 16-18” above water line.

Seems to work but my understanding is header should remain 24” above water line? Or am I mistaken?

Thanks James

For a drop header the final height above the water line isn't as critical as a non drop header. In fact one of the advantages of the drop header is to get the header lower when there isn't much ceiling height to connect to the system.

What's important is that initial rise. Once it starts over and comes back down, all it has to be is above the water line in the boiler.

What @Jamie Hall said is spot on. The header must be above the water line.
