Boiler Replacement

We replaced the boiler in this c. 1870 home in Falls Church, VA.

The old compression tank above this WM boiler waterlogged and broke from its mounts. This snapped the connecting copper pipe flooding all of the electrical components. Time for a new boiler.

We went back with a Peerless MI along with a re-pipe.

We had one surprise. The old chimney did not have a clay tile liner. It had been lined with B-Vent at some point in the past.

One of the joints worked loose and flue products were leaking into the space around the chimney. This completely rotted out the B-Vent.

We scrambled to find a stainless steel liner so we could complete the job. Luckily RE Michel had one in stock.

What is that red fitting that is bolted to the wall and has the diaphragm tank screwed in to it? Is it made just for that?

It is a Flamco expansion tank bracket.

HE II. We had one in the family home just before the folks moved. Loud as an oil burner. Quite a change from the old National US Radiator boiler from the 50s. Converted gravity, no bypass, wonder how long it lasted. The old one turned into a steamer when the gas valve stuck open and split a year later.

nice neat square work,one question,What with the romex hanging down the side when i see bx on the left side? Future change to metal electrical pipe?

Thanks for the comment. All of our wiring is MC armored cable. What you see on the right side is not Romex but flexible CSST gas line feeding the water heater. This was existing work by the plumber.
