Two pipe steam without f and t?

Say again? Most two pipe steam systems do not have -- nor need -- an F&T. There are a few special situations where one might be needed -- but more often than not someone put one on as a bandaid fix to cover the symptom of either a failed radiator or crossover trap or, once in a while, excess pressure.retep said:Two pipe steam without f and t?

In holograms lost art book he says in two pipe with a dry return you need f and t0

If the end of the main is vented and dripped into a wet return, below the water line, (could be right at the boiler) then no F&T needed.
Same for the dry returns from the rad traps, could be dripped the same way with air venting.
Is this gravity return or pumped?0 -

@retep, a two-pipe steam system is going to have some sort of vent after the radiator traps because every steam system has to get rid of its air. If it's a dry-return system, the F&T at the end of the steam main (after it feeds the radiators) stops the steam from reaching into the dry return main. If there's steam in that line, the air won't be able to get out of the radiators through the radiator traps. In lieu of the trap, some of the Dead Men used loop seals at the end of the main.
I hope that helps, and thanks for calling me "hologram." That made me laugh out loud, which is always a nice way to begin a day.Retired and loving it.0 -

I've been thinking about adding a Holohan hologram to the website.DanHolohan said:
