Invitation

Someone sent me a message saying that they would like to come and visit Cedric's home museum -- and I lost the message. Sorry! So a general invitation -- if you are going to be in the area (northwestern Connecticut), send me a PM through the wall and we can set something up. The heating is interesting -- but so is the rest of the place, and its story.

what's the history behind it? I find nothing on the net, but what to search for besides Cedric?0

No, we're not much on the net... we are open, but only by request (since the place is also a residence). Bring up this website: https://npgallery.nps.gov/nrhp and put the number 02000334 in the field called "reference number". That will bring it up... eventually (the site is painfully slow...).
In a nutshell, the place was founded in 1872 by an lady who wrote what might be kindly called "romance novels" -- but which sold well. She bought the place (it started as a farm in about 1780) with the proceeds, although her husband also had some money from selling tack (horse equipment) the cavalry of both sides during the Civil War. Her son-in-law added extensively to it, and it became the centre of a sort of artists' colony, hosting the likes of New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera musicians, concert pianists, actors, painters, and sculptors in the period around 1895 to 1910. It fell on somewhat hard times later, particularly in the depression and the loss of farming in the area (it has always been a working farm), but the trustees are in the process of slowly restoring it (money is pretty tight, and restoration doesn't come cheap).Br.
