Currently have four zones off of a gas boiler. All zones are 3/4" copper from a manifold and come back a 1 1/4" single return.

Question is, can we take one of the zones and directly feed a new remote 2 zone manifold on the other side of the house from the boiler? All would tie back to the main return. Reason for doing this is converted part of the original zone to an in-law apartment plus a small addition and want to have separate thermostats for those rooms.

The boiler has the capacity to take on the additional space.

What you are suggesting sounds doable. Would you eliminate the zone valve on the boiler manifold and add 2 remote valves?

Yes, i would take out that zone valve and make it a home run to the new 2 zone manifold with their own zone valves.

Should work. I'd keep your pipe sizes...

keep the pipe sizes at 3/4 out and connect to the current 1 1/4" return?
