Corroded drain spigot on back of Dunkirk

Anyone tried/succeeded/failed to do something about this situation on a rear drain port of a Utica/Dunkirk boiler?
What is the port going into? Cast iron? A nipple?
Thanks, I’m scared to even take a picture of it 😬

It goes right into the cast-iron boiler section. The ideal replacement is a ball-valve type boiler drain, which makes the boiler much easier to flush out.All Steamed Up, Inc.

Thank you @Steamhead. Someone from the past put a gate valve on the return next to the hartford loop at the same height so maybe that’s OK (I’ll change it to a ball valve next spring), but I’m scared this one is gonna give out. It’s got a drip currently 😓
But maybe there’s not a direct path between sections so that valve that works maybe isn’t good enough—I’m ignorant of the internals/sections.NJ Steam Homeowner.

Try pulling it if it breaks though your going to have to cape it out. It’s doable either way. Put a nice 3/4 full port ball valve.DL Mechanical LLC Heating, Cooling and Plumbing 732-266-5386

Thanks Dave, I might wait until spring for that one too, unless it forces me otherwise
