Piping above the controls is fine. You're a professional, which means they won't be leaking, right?

But going forward, the dropped header should always be a minimum (better + 1 size) of the steam main. Looks like the steam main is 2-1/2". Ergo, the header should be 2-1/2" or 3".

I might have done it differently but what your doing looks ok. So just to be sure your tying the twp boiler supplies together then feeding the tee, The riser is your supply and the end of the tee becomes your equalizer.

A couple of things. Come out of the tee with a close nipple (or at least a short one) and drop down. Don't go across until you drop. You want the water to fall out of the header, think like a waterfall. If possible make the drop go below the boiler water line before turning

Also can't see from the picture but how many supply mains do you have? It is best to bring all supply mains down to the header individually, but If your header is the right pipe size and as the riser increases your probably ok as is.

You can lighten up on the pipe dope. Only what's on the threads in the fitting is what's lubricating and sealing them. I'd recommend a few wraps of Blue Monster tape be applied before the dope. ;)

You can choose to do what you want, but you cannot choose the consequences.
