8 year old drummer does Led Zeppelin

classy, everyone has their own tastes but this thread was based on good music, rock, I listen to everything except techno pop, madonna, anything with a subwoofer and the same beat and song over and over for 40 years, rap, and opera, .....and all musicians and artists tend to suffer from alcohol and drug addiction, many country stars were the worst, Hoyt Axton wrote quite a few songs about it like the Pusher and Snowblind Friend, both redone by Steppenwolf.
Honestly there hasn't been much in 20-30 years that's been new or refreshing.

I fixed it for you. This thread was probably partially about a child drummer who is really good, and a HW TRV.GBart said:classy, everyone has their own tastes but this thread was based on what I consider to be good music, rock, I listen to everything except techno pop, madonna, anything with a subwoofer and the same beat and song over and over for 40 years, rap, and opera, .....and all musicians and artists tend to suffer from alcohol and drug addiction, many country stars were the worst, Hoyt Axton wrote quite a few songs about it like the Pusher and Snowblind Friend, both redone by Steppenwolf.

While I don't care for Steamhead's favorite artist, I do know he has a big appreciation for music and I enjoy conversations with him. I don't think he's ever insulted anything I've shared. I'm always looking for new music, always. And to be fair.........I still haven't see The Boss live.......... so I still can't really comment on his live performances. Rumor is, they're fantastic.
There's a lot of good music out there, and not all of it is rock from the 1970s.......
By the way, nothing benefits from a proper subwoofer more than classical.Single pipe 392sqft system with an EG-40 rated for 325sqft and it's silent and balanced at all times.

I was just referring to the techno junk, Peart was very influenced by Moon, but the man most responsible for rock drumming across the board is Carlo Little, back in the skittle was the music in England and drummers tapped, but Carlo hit hard., he influenced Ringo, Charlie Watts, Moon, Jerry Shirley and Baker and each of those influenced others.Stephen Minnich said:Neil Peart should be in the same discussion as Bonham and Moon.
Carlo gave Moon his only lessons, he played in Screaming Lord Sutch and the Savages among others, he was the Stones first pick for drummer but somehow Watts got it instead, not sure on the story there.

I never said that, not a fan of AC/DC, love classical, subwoofers are ok when used properly but if it's just to shake everyone's home and car as you go down the street you have "look at me" disorder.ChrisJ said:

We're not that far of the mark, I'm a drummer and I can't stand anything that's computer generated.0 -
IIRC it was Jimmy Page who said he never say anyone hit the drums as hard as Bonzo....
In one funny interview- Keith Moon said he picked drums vs. other instruments because they were so bad early on people used to throw rotten veggies, fruit, etc.. at the band. He would tip up his symbols like a shield to deflect the rotten food.
Lol... but in the end he was a madman.
Phil Collins is also a very creative drummer IMO.1 -

some good stuff is Who - Kilburn 1977, Keith was on some kind of rebound and played fairly well

The early Genesis stuff is pretty phenomenal, his solo stuff I found lacking, I don't like songs that repeat a phrase for hours, like Mama, or I can feel it coming in the air over and over, that's just me. Chester Thompson took over for him and before that he played on Zappa's One Size Fits All and that has some incredible drumming by Chester.0

They are! Go see him whenever he tours again. If possible, go with some Springsteen fans who know the songs.ChrisJ said:And to be fair.........I still haven't see The Boss live.......... so I still can't really comment on his live performances. Rumor is, they're fantastic.
This tuba player agrees heartily. The finale of this symphony practically demands one. If I ever grow up, I want to play this:ChrisJ said:By the way, nothing benefits from a proper subwoofer more than classical.

Stevie Van Zandt had a good spiel on why rock and roll is the most important music genre, on his Sirius show the other day.
I like what he is doing for teachers and students on his tour and the Rock and Roll Foundation.

A rock and roll musician has a spiel on why rock and roll is most important.

I'm starting to think discussions on music are like politics and religion, both of which I tend to avoid.
I like a lot of different music, mainly tied in with my emotional state at the time. This includes some of the mentioned "puke". Is it all good music? Yes and no, but it suits my emotional "need" at the time. Also I like to dance and only certain genres get my feet moving.
I'm not sure if there is a genre I don't listen to. Some are limited, but still something about them lights me up.
IMHO music is an emotional expression both for the performer and the listener. No one can say who's emotions are good or bad, they are individual emotions.
Oh and I love subwoofers and playing it loud, but it has nothing to do with wanting attention. It's mainly about drowning out a rough day at work, or celebrating a great day of some kind. If it's too loud you are too old.3 -
please, good for you,, don't ever judge me, I was talking about the techno pop crap, not the jazz, not the fusion I love it all, I'm into everything from Three Dog Night to Return to Forever to Joanne Shaw Taylor to Little Feat, and if something in my opinion is puke then it's puke to me, that's opinion and people can have opinions about music, food, travel, etc, where you can't have opinion is on history, science and facts and politics.ChrisJ said:> @hot rod said:

Historically speaking, it appears R&B has played a much larger roll in effecting most music over the past 30 years or so than rock.
I would've guessed jazz my self.
Everything you just posted, except Return to Forever, was rock.
So you're into everything from rock, to rock, to rock, to jazz.
Art is art and there are many forms.
Remember @GBart, I like the music you do. I'm just not only limited to it. I'll put on some Eminem and enjoy it, or some Andrews Sisters, or Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Beethoven. Maybe some Enya, Loreena Mckennitt. Madonna, Mike Oldfield...……. the list is enormous and I love all of it.
You're saying not to judge you, when you cast the first rock? Pun intended.
Dan doesn't run the forum anymore, but remember his only rule? I'm sure Erin believes in it too.
BE NICE. This includes not calling other's taste in music "puke".
When you see stuff you don't care for, ignore it and keep scrolling. Share stuff you like. Others did. I don't care for some of the stuff you shared, but that doesn't mean it's puke, or even bad. It's just not for me.
My latest edition to music I like, is Electro Swing.

Always enjoyed John Densmore's drumming too.
Of course he always takes a back seat to Jimbo and Ray Manzarek, nonetheless he was quite creative on most of The Doors material.0 -
This I find interesting on what made John one of the best!

So THAT's how they handled those rhythm patterns! Bonzo was definitely one of the greats.
No discussion of drumming would be complete without mentioning Hal Blaine, of the group of studio musicians known as the Wrecking Crew. He is probably the most-recorded drummer ever. Check out this list of songs he played on- bet you know most of them, but didn't know all the drummers were Hal Blaine:

The point about Bonzo which is mentioned in the Video is how he fed on, and evolved from different styled music, and drummers into his own style which reflects into the band.
This is why different styles of music are so important to all great musicians. The drummer in a band is usually the anchor. however the best bands play around each other's talents.
Neil Peart from RUSH is another. You would think a drummer with a set like he sports could hit about anywhere, and sound good
To KCjones point I don't care for the booming bass, but I do like to feel the music with quality sound.0 -
Right. LZ had many influences- notably the blues (seen in their versions of "Gallows Pole" and "When The Levee Breaks", my favorite of theirs), J.R.R. Tolkien ("Battle of Evermore", "Misty Mountain Hop" etc.) country ("Hot Dog") and I think "Kashmir" had a lot of Arabian musical influence. This band was a lot more intellectual than most people (for example the burnouts at my high school) knew.Gordy said:The point about Bonzo which is mentioned in the Video is how he fed on, and evolved from different styled music, and drummers into his own style which reflects into the band.
Speaking of "Levee", Zeppelin completely reworked the music- you can feel the fear in their version. Here's the original- now we know who Memphis Minnie was, and her partner, Kansas Joe McCoy:
