I wonder how many times the bulb shattered over someones head when a drop of water hit it?

That looks dangerous.

Check out this one seen all over Asia and Central America. I have seen dozens of these. Never one with ground wire connected.

The strategy for survival is:
Turn on water without getting wet (a wooden stick works well).
Touch the stream with back of hand, quickly.
Take a quick shower and don't touch anything.
Turn off water without getting wet.

It is an excellent water saving device

We went to Thailand about 10 years ago. Son was student there.
We stayed 6 weeks in modern hotel, designed for the better off locals. Very reasonable rates, about 12 USD a night.
We were the only westerners staying there.

The water heater was an instantaneous electric mounted right in the shower. The faucet was built into the unit, you had a hand held spray. Just made a point to not get the heater wet.
This also doubled as the bidet spray as the TP was less than desirable.

Key card would run the AC mini split unit.
Our sheets were washed and ironed every day.
Mini fridge included.

We would walk up to the Hilton for real coffee every morning.
Talking to some Brits who stayed there and they would run out of hot water every morning. We told them our nightly rate with never ending hot water and there was stone silence from them.

I didn't tell them though that I noticed the 6" water main for their hotel was installed inside the 2 X 2 concrete storm/sewage drain line.
This was obvious as there was a large grate about every 300'.
And it was obvious this was for sewage also. (Why dig another trench??)

lol, Dan, i just read the story you linked..That is crazy! Did Meg ever find out how many people die from their shower heads?

She never did, Gerry. She still thinks I was silly to ask about it.

She once called me from South Sudan. Hilary Clinton had just cut off foreign aid to the country, which Meg was there distributing. The conversation went like this:

"Are you safe, Meg?"
"Yes, Dad. Don't worry. The fighting is in another part of the country."

South Sudan is smaller than Texas. That would be like her saying, "They're murdering everyone in Dallas, Dad, but don't worry; I'm in Houston."

It's a wonder I don't have gray hair.

If you use a LED, or CFL bulb that risk is negligible since they run cooler.........

I’d be more worried about continuity to the socket.......

It seems to be Sunday story day so here is one concerning showers.
A local area man who was shot down over Germany during a bombing run told his story to me and eventually a book writer.
He was a POW for many months, maybe a year or more.
They were sent into the shower house after weeks/months being held. He described very unusual piping over head, 25' ceilings and triple sealed doors as they waited with some anticipation until the "shower heads" flowed water. ( he did say it was actually warm water).
They were given showers on occasion after that and came to trust the building. (even though there was a large smokestack connected to a building close to the shower house, they had noticed these stacks around the country as they were flying missions. Few knew the true purpose. )

As the end of the war was weeks away, the Commandant came in over a weekend and saw orders to gas all prisoners, perhaps 6000, in the "shower house" on Monday morning.
He emptied the camp and set out on a march towards the allied lines. This "death march" story is told in a book called "Out of Barbed Wire"

Three of these surviving POW's are from our area. The were all close to death just from the camp but the march put them closer. One passed away perhaps 20 years ago, the other two attended his funeral and viewed the body, the local that I knew always had a sense of humor. He told the third guy that "He looked good in the casket, as we have seen him look a lot worse"

I get sentimental just telling the story as our local returning airman had six children that I went to school with, they would not be here had the Commandant obeyed his written orders.

Jughne- yikes, not much else one can say about that other than there is a God!

He was telling me that when they got the first AA hit, that he heard thru the intercom another crew member calling for help.
He went to help, but that crew member said he never called and that the first hit took out the intercom wiring and they couldn't communicate anyway.
He went back to his radio operator position to find it completely decimated by AA flak. Had he never heard the "call for help" and responded he would have never made it to the bail out.

He personally told me this story and I don't believe it is in the book. Also the dead horse drug into camp for butchering and the joy of getting some rotten potatoes.
On the march they got the dishwater from their captors for evening soup.

And we get upset about bad cell service.
