Steam replacement
Dave0176
Member Posts: 1,178
Started another steam replacement today, had a new helper, my 9yo apprentice. He did a great job and he worked hard today.
Old boiler was a 18yo Pennco 1606 187,000 BTU for only 430 EDR. Piped wrong as usual.
Anyway I went in with a Weil-McLain EG-50. There is a possibility the under floor return is leaking, I put the hydro level water feeder in so we monitor the water situation.

Hopefully your apprentice will develop the same passion for this work that you have. Glad you are exposing him to working with his hands besides using a controller in a video game. I think a lot more kids would be interested in the trades if they just had a little exposure. These kids aren't lazy, they just don't know anything else.3

The advantage of a young helper is they have not had time to acquire bad habits,
That is one great install.

I hope you're explaining to him what was wrong with the old piping, rather than just "well that's the way it is". If your "apprentice" is anything like my son, he'll want to know why. (As every tech who's worked in my house finds out...)0

I started when I was nine, good memories. Still going strong! Very nice install, glad to see someone teaching the next generation, and glad he's got a good teacher.0
-
I also hope you are explaining to him exactly why you install the piping the way you have, and each slight change that another installer might do, and why it would not be as good.
A PERFECT installation there and a true work of art.Dave in Quad Cities, America

thats a fine looking install that no one can top. I'd put that on a canvas print and hang it in the young mans room so he can be proud of it for years to come!gwgillplumbingandheating.com

Instead of the brass pigtail I see you fabricated your own. Can you take a closer pic so I can show some of my coworkers. With the explanation of the clean outs.0
