That company was bought out by Rheem, sometime in the late 1950s or early 1960s.

Nifty! 25 years ago when my Big Brother Bart moved in to his home, I told him to start putting aside some $ for his "old" Hart & Crouse Gas hw
Boiler with powerpile that around 28-30 yrs old
Besides one powerpile generator, and a repipe to accommodate a radiant zone 15 years ago, the boiler has needed NOTHING! He gleefully reminds me every heating season. :p :p

We just recently removed one that was put in 1933 and still functional.

It looks like a gravity but if there's a pump on it it's in the back.

    It's not gravity. It's 5 zone pumped.

@ratio Sorry. You'll have to find your own. :)

@Steamhead Thanks for the history. I was unaware that Richmond boilers existed. Is it the same company that made the Richmond cast iron Rads?

@Mad Dog He wants to replace this one. I'm not so sure that he should. Maybe just clean the system water side to bring the efficiency up a few points.

@Ironman That looks like more pipe than boiler! 2 loop gravity system?

Sometimes people want to reclaim a little floor space in the basement.
What changes would make the boiler more efficient by a few points-pipe insulation, burner downfiring, etc?—NBC

^ Beautiful job Bob! I'm saving your photos for future reference.

I see you piped the UFT P/S... how is that working out?

    Any problems with air removal?

Works great. No air problems; system has CI rad's, so any air that makes it to them has to be manually bled at the rad.

Cleaning up the system on the water side increases system efficiency by allowing the heat from the flame to reach the space to be heated, in less time. It does not necessarily affect combustion efficiency.

    ^ great!
I can personally testify that the UFT loves cast iron, I'm sure the HO is thrilled with the new system. They probably have hours long burn times with zero cycling.

I especially like your hydraulic separation device, inexpensive, effective and simple... will probably last forever too. Kudos on the design!

What size is that black iron separator? It looks bigger than 2" but I am not sure.
