You didn't say what fuel you would be using.

The Burnham MegaSteam is the best IMHO. Problem is, Burnham has a hissy fit if you want to run it with a gas burner, rather than oil. They threaten to void the warranty.

We install a lot of Slant/Fin Intrepid boilers with Carlin EZ-Gas burners in them. These are more efficient than the usual atmospheric type of gas boiler.

Tell us more about your system, including pics of the boiler and a couple radiators.

Great answer, Gary. When we needed a new boiler, I chose the contractor and he chose the boiler. Marianne and I went away for a week to get out of his way. No regrets!

What we're trying to convey to you is that the contractor is 98% of the equation. Find the best steam pro and let him install what he prefers.

Yes! All the heating systems do the same thing, how well it performs is out of the hands of the manufacturer. No heating system has 100% success rate, there’s gonna be a glitch here and there. To think otherwise is folly.

How do you go about ordering the Intrepid with the gas gun? My distributor says oil only.

Yes, I have the same problem in Chicago, the reps refuse to sell it without a gas gun. It took calls to the factory to get the rep to sell me one without an oil gun. The reps here appear to have no interest in selling boilers. Slantfin is essentially non existent in the Chicago market. The only ones I've seen in the last 8 years are ones I installed. I haven't installed any more since it is such a hassle to get them.

@New England SteamWorks , order it "less burner" and get the proper EZ-Gas with the welded flange from Carlin.

If you're dealing with Ferguson, our guys down here have it down to a science. PM me and I'll tell you who to call.

Slant/Fin won’t sell the boiler “less burner” anymore. So, you’ll have to get a knock down. I have an Intrepid coming up with a Beckett gas gun.

Yeah, I am not comfortable with all this. I'd feel a lot better if I at least understood why they won't sell it with a gas gun?

AFAIK, there isn't enough demand for the gas gun for S/F to stock it. We all know how to change that, don't we?

Carlin has specific air tubes with welded flanges to install on these boilers. These also run more quietly than the standard air tubes. We like to use a Lynn #1046 cuff on the air tube to fill the space between the EZ-Gas' 3-1/2" air tube and the 4" opening in the front plate.

And many times, getting the boiler as a knockdown makes it easier to maneuver thru those narrow stairways and doors.

I recall someone saying you could get a Peerless EC/ECT without the burner. Anyone use these for gas?
