Smelly Radiator

Hello Gents,

We're having quite a problem with the smell when turning on the heat. It really only seems to be a problem with one radiator. I tried my best to clean off any excess pipe dope (which has gotten extremely hard) but it hasn't helped much. Any suggestions? Also any ideas for paint that will maximize output and not stink so bad once the heat comes on again? Thank you.

Something must be on, or near, the radiator which smells when it warms up. A radiator doesn't have any smell -- it's just metal -- and even most paints won't smell after the first two or three times they heat up. What's the smell like?

Ours just have latex paint on Most of them. Specs say 200f limit is ok. No discoloration, peeling or anything. Even the white ones.

Get some burnt dust smell when they really heat up about this time of year. It’s 3f outside. Boiler is running about 30% of the time.
