Installed new thermostat in 3 zone system, now weird things...?

Installed new thermostat on the lowest level of the Tri-zone boiler system (home is a Tri-level, lowest level has under the floor pipes, other levels are baseboard). About 4 days later the pilot light has been flickering and hot water will just, seemingly out of nowhere, stop flowing to the radiant baseboards and floor heating (lower), but the pilot light is still on...? I then switch the boiler off, wait 5 mins, switch back on and hot water comes back. Then soon the pilot light (flame or thermocouple..?) starts to click and flicker again. Repeat...

So is it an issue with my boiler? Or the new (very basic Honeywell digital screen type, like $20) thermostat?

Here is a 1 minute video of me showing the flick and click happening at the boiler. Ignore me attempting to sound like I know what I am talking about...because I don’t.

Is this the pilot flame that is flickering? Gas boiler? You say the pilot light is still on, but is it on with a good solid flame?

  • Cross the thermostat wires several times, and see if the boiler fires. If it does, then try putting back the original thermostat, and see if it still works properly.—NBC
