Elmwood Park NJ owner said the boiler wouldn’t hold water and the floor around the boiler was always wet, I indeed found the boiler leaking due to rot around the return. The old boiler a Crown rebadged Dunkirk had no header and was oversized. So in went a Union Steam GSA-75000.

And of course, the Dunkirk had a 2-1/2x2 bushing in the steam outlet. So much for reading instructions.
Nice job, and I'll bet the system runs much better now. Is that boiler a re-badged Weil-McLain?All Steamed Up, Inc.

@Steamhead yes It is. And yes it’s pretty common around here to find all the Dunkirks piped this way, hahaha, actually most use 2” copper.Steamhead said:And of course, the Dunkirk had a 2-1/2x2 bushing in the steam outlet. So much for reading instructions.

@SeanBeans yes I asked the customer if she wanted an automatic water feed, but she said no, she checks on the boiler often. That’s is a new ball valve on the feed I used a compression fitting valve as it wouldn’t stop leaking.DL Mechanical LLC Heating, Cooling and Plumbing 732-266-5386

In 70 years I've never liven in a house with an auto fill, checking the boiler a few times a week is not a hardship. Ignoring a boiler is easy, paying to replace a neglected one is not easy.
