    I had the old Honeywell Round (with the Mercury switch) that was likely 40-50 years old and when it went bad I changed to the Round with the digital display. I didn't notice any difference in operation with my steam system. I did have the first digital one fail in the 1st year, but replaced it and the second one has been going for over 10 years. If electronics are going to fail...usually it is in the first 3-6 months.

    Two of the three thermostats in the main place I care for are mercury round Honeywell T87s. There is a programmable digital... why the old mercury ones? Backup. They just don't quit. The only reason for the digital is I wanted to have the setback recovery (3 degrees) before I got going in the morning!

    @Jamie Hall
    Did it really made a difference with the 3° setback?
    Thanks

    Not really... not that I can measure. But it's nice to have all the radiators toasty at oh dark hundred on a winter's morning.
