Agreed. Would have taken me longer than that to figure this one out.

Nice Article, and trouble shooting Harvey. A true hydronisist. I seem to remember mentioning that pressure differential on zone valves being mentioned by you in a post a while back.

Nice clear wording and writing Harvey and congrats on the expanding career path. Question though about the 1/4 tubing bypass. Was this super unique because of the direct piping setup? (internal pump required exp tank on return instead of the supply.) How would you have changed this setup to avoid the issue in the future? Would a different bypass valve or different zone valves behaved better? The supply house tech was semi correct I guess... change to 007 and leave out the dif bypass altogether. But that seems silly to have to "mod" a brand new product. I thing I have it covered in my head but I ask these questions because HH really is a place of learning. Your article provides real life on the spot fixes that'll help professional and homeowner troubleshoot in the future but continuing the dialogue here could really help others avoid them before they happen too.

I do love "contractor stories" and it's probably why Dan was such a draw for me as an author and teacher. I look forward to more hands-on article from you in the future. Congrats again on a great start to '17

It explained the initial two X tank setup. One on the supply, and one on the return. The capillary piping was brilliant, and far more reliable than a double X tank setup.

Great article Harvey! Very well written and engaging. And, way to troubleshoot. I love those kind of challenges.
    Congratulations!

    Good article!

I recommended Harvey to a friend of mine and he has serviced their boiler twice. My friend has been VERY impressed with his work. He has be thorough and explains in detail what he is doing and proposals to make the system better. I should also add that my friend is actually a bit outside of his normal territory, but he has been going out there anyway. My friend just can't say enough about the quality of his work. He is a true asset to his trade.
