Sorry @rhw, as @Fred has got right to the point. No, it is not currently piped properly. Who instructed you that it was?

    Not even close.

    Look at the drawing carefully:

The near boiler piping looks exactly like it did back in January. Looks like he did some work on the returns. Might want to add some extra venting though. I can't see how you would skim the boiler either after that new piping went in.

So.. no.. still not piped correctly.

He's using that left side riser tapping as a giant skim port. He also doesn't have a header and he has what looks like two mains bull headed together. Each needs to come down into a header, if he ever installs one. Given the side tappings, I probably would use both sides as risers into a header too.

Also unless you have a tiny system, that probably isn't enough main venting. I'm assuming you didn't call @Dave0176 or @EzzyT ?

Plumber was found using the "find a contractor" search on this site. I felt that locating a company within a close radius to my home would facilitate any emergency work should that occur during the heating season. I did not price the job out with different plumbers. I went with the advice of what I thought to be an expert from the search on this site. Looks like a fail. :(

Thanks. I certainly would be interested in an appraisel of what I need to get this system right. I see the illustrations posted and I have read the remarks but what specifically is needed here to improve what I have? Perhaps I need it more spelled out for me as to the steps required. I have zero experience in any of this and trouble understanding the difference between a riser, a return, a header, etc.

My family's company, Gateway Plumbing and Heating, was based out of Maplewood for years until we moved next door to Valley St in Orange (07050). My brother/biz partner lives on Burnett. If you live in Maplewood then surely you've seen our trucks around.
Just like Ezzy and Dave, we know how to deal with steam heat and our boiler work is top shelf.

Second that. But @EzzyT posted first, so I'd get in touch with him first.
