What a disaster

Got a call to service and find out why so little heat. I found this disaster, and no the owner won't replace it. Anyway I had to bleed the loops and found a the extrol tank pissing, so I replaced that, (it isn't even piped properly, in fact the whole boiler isn't piped properly, wrong minimum pipe sizes, pumped to the return). I also thought it was under firing which I was right, I clocked the gas meter and found it burning 425,000 BTU, checked pressure was good, so I replaced the gas valve too, and now we're burning the proper 550,000 BTU. Anyway you can lead a horse to water but..........

    Yikes!

Were you able to eliminate the rollouts that left all those char marks?

Why the shutoff valve AFTER the gas valve? Was some knucklehead trying to throttle the gas down because of the flame roll out on the left side?

From the looks of the roll out I wonder if the chimney is pulling a draft...prob not lined.

I did a combustion test with my testo and everything seemed alright, had good draft. Who knows what shoemaker worked on this thing in the past.
