Dan, ordered my copy yesterday, due to arrive on the 18th.
Also Thanks for the heads up on " Rust: The Longest War" by Jonathan Waldman, currently enjoying this read.
I'm guessing the cover is a Heating Labyrinth to which you have solved the passage

I received my copy today and didn't turn out the bedside light until well past midnight...I've enjoyed all of your books but this one is definitely on another level for me.
As a father of young (fraternal) twins, I had to chuckle several times as you wrote about the differences in personality that appear almost instantly. So very true! It amazes me that time has passed as quickly as it has: they will turn ten (TEN!) in another month. Seems like just yesterday I had them balanced on my lap, covered in blankies and bottles and spit-up cloths. Now, tonight, I watch as one practices her gymnastics routines in the living room and the other spends her third consecutive hour animating her latest (original) comic strip.
Tomorrow, I will attend their Christmas concert at school, one of the last before they move on up to the 'big leagues' of middle school...scary. For me.
Dan is right: Hug your kids. And Erin is right too, and I hope my girls take note: Hug your Dad.
My very best to you and yours this holiday season, and thank you for a beautiful book.
Sincerely,

Best and funniest (is that even a word?) book I've read in a long time. About 20 years ago I bought an 1834 house with a oil-fired Utica steam boiler and no heat. Found the Lost Art of Steam heat and stared at the book and my plumbing and drew pictures and finally called the Utica boiler company. They said what can we help you with? And I said I've a Utica xxx boiler and one pipe steam heat and I don't think it's plumbed in properly. And the chap replied "They hardly ever are. " So they sent me the installation manual and lots of other stuff and I replumbed the whole thing myself. And it worked :-) And then I discovered the wall and began to really learn. Since then I've replaced the oil boiler with a gas boiler. Dropped the pressure to cut out at about .7 lb and added a low pressure gauge. Insulated and vented. And learned from the wall over and over. And I would give you this advice for free except Dan says I should charge about $500 for these thoughts . . .

I just bought the Kindle edition of your new book and am looking forward to reading it this weekend. Thanks for your efforts! I heard about The Los Art of Steam Heating from This Old House and have enjoyed reading it. I'm only obliquely in the heating business, as I helped write the original 1999 ASTM E2018 standard for Property Condition Assessments, and deal with property owners. There is some steam heat in southern California, mostly in 1920's and 1930's apartment buildings. Best of luck in your future activities!Author of Illustrated Practical Asbestos: For Consultants, Contractors, Property Managers & Regulators0

It is an excellent business book and I wish it had been one of my text books back then. There is so little technical content that it should be read by anybody in a college business school or in any business. Perhaps you could send a copy to a few of the business schools to see if they want to use it as a text book?
I'm 58, and had never noticed the eye movement you mentioned, so now have a project to study eye movement.
I was a user(customer) and then ultimately salesman of ISSCO presentation graphics software back when it ran on mainframes and minicomputers, and know the great value of good visuals. We used to say that one word was worth 10 to the negative 3 pictures..
The right-left political polarization may not be as bad as you think. It is fun to take the Political Compass quiz on the internet. Most normal people will come out somewhere in the middle (-5 to 5) on the grid which runs from -10 to 10, and that helps them see they have more in common than they may have thought. Try it.

I just did, and won't report the results here. Let's just say they confirmed that I have as little in common with others as a lifetime of experience suggested.FStephenMasek said:...It is fun to take the Political Compass quiz on the internet.
