Got a call on a leaking boiler. As it turns out, only the flange was leaking on a circulator. The boiler is only 2 years old and the guy who installed it switched the supply & returns so purging was impossible unless I added a purge station.
There are no words to describe what everything looked like here. It was downright painful to look at.

The water heater on the right (with the upside down circulator) pulls double duty as both domestic and baseboard heating. The domestic hot water tees right off the baseboard and serves the kitchen & lavatories. As my teen says.....OMG!0

That is ugly looking for sure!0

Just back slowly out of the boiler room....Al Corelli0

Looks like one of those Jumbo Gyms the kids play on at the neighborhood park. I've seen worse but not by much. I actually love the guys who do work like this. It makes my job SO much easier. Not because they continue to lower the bar, but that they give me the opportunity to raise it.Steve Minnich0

Question for Bob. How did you even get to the boiler??
Selfie would have been a nice added touch upon setting eyes on that mess.0 -
Same old story guy was probably the cheapest price.
Customer probably had no idea.

Ah come on. The guy had to be a genius. Anyone that could keep track of where everything went, has to be a piping Picasso. That's modern art in its finest form.
It probably took years to create that masterpiece.
Some here just don't appreciate quality modern art. Not every artist uses a brush. There are different artistic mediums. That person happens to use copper tubing and a torch.1 -

It could be and M.C. Escher work of art!

Give the guy a break; all he had was a box of elbows and a bunch of short pipes.

This is one I walked into the other day. Not one thing on it was done correctly, not even one. Its a Rinnai E75C and this poor widow had not had one hot shower in 3 years. On top of that she had to empty the bucket from the relief valve everyday!!
Click on pic files and open in separate window to see them correctly
