Steam boilers are pretty simple -- if they are installed according to the manuals which always come with them.

A good steam person should be able to troubleshoot this with very little trouble, but we need more information.

This may be a control issue. It may be a water level issue. It might be something else entirely. Some pictures of the boiler and the associated piping would help, as would some pictures of the controls and all on the front of the boiler.

Okay first of all it's piped wrong...actually it's beyond wrong. Your installer needs to come back and OPEN THE MANUAL and pipe it like the manufacturer says. There is no Hartford loop, there is no equalizer, the returns are tied together above the water line and vented below? I don't even know what that is all about. Seriously he needs to tear it all back all the way to the mains at the ceiling and try again. There needs to be a header and the mains are to be tied into that header individually. I am sure I am missing a bunch there is so much going on there it's hard to figure. It will never work correctly the way it is piped and you have some very bad things there with no equalizer or Harford loop.

Also did the installer measure all your radiators and properly size the boiler according to that and NOT off the size of the old boiler?

    That is an understatement!
Ditto for all the above comments with the additional one. If it's piped so badly I doublt it's sized correctly. Do you know how he went about that? Do you know the EDR of your rads? Is your T-stat hooked up correctly? Did he skim it? I'm thinking "NO"! Have you paid him? He needs to take it apart and do it correctly. People on this site can help you figure it out to make sure it is correct the second go around.

Kc jones according the pictures I post you think it's the piping? He wants me to purchase a new water feeder and I don't want to spend unnecessary money.

Yes there is no question the piping he installed is completely wrong...it won't work the way it's piped. Open your manual and look at the picture. He needs to rip out what HE did and fix it properly on HIS dime. Did you make final payment yet? It is so wrong you can't troubleshoot it, he needs to start over. Look at this link page 7 figure 1...that's what the piping is supposed to look like. The guy that installed that is a hack...or has no idea what he is doing.

Oh My Gosh. This is a total tear down and restart. There is no way this boiler can function the way the piping is installed. Even the water feed piping is plumbed wrong. If you have paid this guy, I'm not sure I'd want him back to try to correct it.

I get tired of seeing garbage work that contractors do...I got so much help from people on this site for my own boiler install I try and pass along what I have learned to others. I never tire of helping my parents taught me it's what anyone should do...help anyone we think is in need.

It seems as though you have to figure out your next move. You need to find out if he is willing to correct his mistakes. On occasion the contractor doesn't know what they don't know and is willing to learn. If you talk to your contractor about this try and find out what they are willing to do. You can send them to this site if they want to learn or need assistance on what is correct. If they blow off all of the above suggestions they aren't worth having in your house again and you may need to get someone else in there to make it right. Where are you located?

I would be clear with him...everything he did is wrong, essentially nothing that I can see is salvageable about that installation other than materials. You should be very clear about that. If he doesn't understand as I said send him to this site and we are more than willing to help. If he isn't willing to work with you to correct it then here is a link to someone you could call...one of the best Steam men around. Good luck to you.

OMG I confirm that is as bad as it gets…Hope you get all your money back, as well as the extra its going to cost to remove that THING and get it done correctly by a steam guy…If he piped it like that I am sure he did not check the chimney, nor confirm for make up air….
