Really old gas valve?

This valve is in a small section of galvanized pipe in my basement. It appears to be a Hays valve and the piping is 1/2".
Does anyone have any clue how old this is? The house was built in the 1860s and my only guess is perhaps this piping fed gas lights because it seems too small for anything else except maybe a cooking stove?
House only had electric and oil when we moved in and then I ran all new gas piping. Later on I found this and thought it was interesting.

Wash Tub boiler?
Hey Chris. My 100yr old house has a gas line that went to a little two-burner stove that was used to boil water in copper wash tubs. Not sure it they were still doing that in the 1940s, but maybe. (It was really a cute piece, but unfortunately an idiot friend threw it out when helping me clean the basement. At least they kept the tub..)Two-pipe Trane vaporvacuum system; 1466 edr
Twinned, staged Slantfin TR50s piped into 4" header with Riello G400 burners; 240K lead, 200K lag Btus. Controlled by Taco Relay and Honeywell RTH6580WF0 -
It looks like a swivel for a
gas meter in the second picture to the right of the gas shut off. It could have been for just about anything such as a cooking stove, dryer, etc.0 -
