    Less boiler more storage

The key to wood is energy storage. They are most efficient at high fire and you really cant turn one off. The other truth is that many manufactures are  incompetent system designers.

There are tons of "boiler install goes bad" posts on here.

Check out the attached file as a design starting point.

    What Type?

Indoor or outdoor? Pressurized or non pressurized? Conventional or gasified?

There's no pat answer without knowing what your looking for, how much you wanna spend, what your connecting it to and other factors.

Carefully study the Idronics 10 issue that Zman attached and you'll be much better equipped to make decisions and plan what you need.

Unless you have a good source for wood a lot of time and energy. I don't think it is all that cheap. You have to buy the stove, the chainsaw, the 4 wheel drive truck, etc.. You have to devote time to hauling, splitting, and stacking the wood. I would rather hustle some overtime a couple of weekends and use the money to buy oil and spend the weekends at car events, but that's just me.

I have a wood stove. I use it when it is real cold or when the power goes out. Simple. Wood boilers are a little more fussy .

Walk quietly and carry a big stick...

The EPA has banned about 80% of the wood burners on the market. My limited understanding is that ONLY gasifiers are allowed.

Google EPA bans wood burning appliances and see what pops up. I suspect there will be some real FIRE sales in the near future…

    Not available any longer

    Bill,

Buderus has pulled that boiler from the U.S. market. It's still available in Europe, though.

I wonder if it's because of the EPA non-sense? Kinda strange isn't it: you can burn wood in a fireplace and make all the smoke you want, but throw those same logs into an OWB and big brother has to get involved. It's all about control, not concern for our well-being.
