Up to 30 minute delay after furnace and thermostat clicks on

Hello,

Here is my problem with a gas furnace with an electric starter. The thermostat and the furnace click on when the temperature drops below the temperature set, but sometimes it takes forever for the unit to even attempt to light the pilot and then the blowers. Once it does light the pilot everything seems to be fine, but the fact it takes so long is annoying and I am concerned there is a safety issue. When there is a delay, I hear a minor hum from the unit, and what sounds like a dripping sound from the unit every 10 seconds or so. Is there a problem? I do not remember this happening last year, which was my first winter in this house.

    Not normal

It sounds like the furnace is having trouble with ignition.

It would be a good idea to have it serviced sooner than later. At some point it will not ignite at all leaving you chilly.

    It Could Be...

A blocked vent or condensate drain. I concur that you need to get a tech ASAP.
