Yes it can be moved
In some areas the gas company wants to get the meters from inside to outside. Check with your local gas company to see if they are interested in doing that for their convenience. Does a meter reader read your meter or is it read electronically? If it is a meter reader then outside is to their advantage. They will also tie in to your outlet and relight your equipment.
