Steam Pressure

I know this is Steam 101 stuff but we don't see much of it around here so I don't get much practice - what should the pressure gauge read on a residential Pennco steam boiler? I had one today that was at zero while running.

Sounds about right...
particularly if you are looking at the code 0-30 psi gauge. Most residential steam systems should run less than 2 psi max. -- in fact, most seem to work best in the ounce per square inch range; possibly as high as 1.5 psi cutout/.5 psi cutin. And you won't see that on the code gauge...Br. Jamie, osb

low pressure gauge
you can get a good 0-3 psi low pressure gauge from gaugestore.com and mount it on the same pigtail as the pressuretrol, or better yet vaporstat. that way you know what the pressure is.--nbc0 -
