    confusion

You might be confusing the Snake-O-Rooter types with real plumbers. Haven't been near a turd in 20 years.

    Hate to admit it but

Mechanical Engineer (PE) and now building superintendent (which basically means that anything that doesn't work I get to take a whack at it... or call a pro, which I often do!)

This was a nice thread to see which end of a copper length the other wallies look through.

I am a 2nd Generation Master Plumber, but I only do it when I have to, much rather do wet heat service....

I fell in love with the heating business the first time my old man showed me how a burner works by lighting one out in the open. fire...Fire...FIRE!!!

    Good Thread

This is a neat thread. I'm a pipefitter in a chemical manufacturing plant in Wisconsin. I wish I could work in a nuclear plant like Perry :)

    Well... a Farmer, Carpenter,

Foreman in a large east coast meat packing plant, Welder, metal fabricator, kitchen cabinet refacing/remodeling, then I figures that if it can be done I can do it too, Plumber/HVAC/Electrial Jack of all trades Master of none.
My wife says we should be called Floyd's "You break it He'll fix it"
Love fixing stuff, never get bored, and that helps keep my AADD in check.

    Ya probably can...

The plants hire people every year... and I am sure a pipefitter would be welcome in Maintenance. Depending on your background you might get into other technical areas (programs engineering - where lots of people do not have engineering degrees). email me if you're serious and willing to relocate if you are not already in the area (most people live in the Green Bay - Appleton - Manitowoc - Kewaunee area).

Heck, just email me anyway. We can always get together sometime.

    Plumbing Supply

I work in the Plumbing Supply industry 30+ years, like my Dad and brother. Try to get my hands dirty a few times a year in the products we sell to make myself more knowledgeable.

    bogus plumbers

That is probably roto rooter. if you hire them for actual plumbing work , just consider suicide. they will take every nickel you have & know nothing about plumbing .

    potential problem

Knew 2 good plumbing mechanics that went there for a little while. Apparently commission driven somehow. Both of them did not have good comments and only lasted a few weeks.

They are not Rotor Rooter they are from the North Shore area. Thanks for your reply.
  • I have been involved

with the heating business since I was 13 years old and am now 67. I have spent 41 of those years working on the gas heating side and 28 years working for a utility. For 18 of those years I was the Training Director for the local gas company.

I have installed furnaces, boilers AC's and all sorts of plumbing and fitting. I have a Master Pipefitter liscense.

I am now operating the Gas Training Institute and own Gas Appliance Service Training and Consulting.

    Not a Plumber

I is Electrician, Mastered it maryland, virginia & DC. If you can run conduit you can run boiler pipe or gas pipe. I have HVAC and gasfitting in virginia. I do mostly forced air HVAC and hw heat stuff.

    a jokester

You can run the pipe, that is true but not correctly or safely. a electrician running gas lines is either ridiculous or you are simply pulling our leg. a real electrician would never make a statement like that

spent first year and a half in this trade in strictly hydronics. joined the union 4 months ago and now i don't know what I am, student, pipefitter, plumber, snowmelt specialist, or ditch digger. i'm not complaining by any means i love my job and still wake up every morning finding some reason to want to go to work. i'm in my early twenties though.

If They are from Pelham N.H. don't hire them, they owe me $1000 from a job I subbed off them years ago. Bob Gagnon

Grew up working around Thoroughbred Race horses........

and did a fair share of farm work every summer. Hated school. Poked around in about 10 different fields/trades post h.s. Mom and Older Brother Bart sat me down and said:
"You either 'get' a trade or go to college." I had fixed the kitchen sink waste and liked it. Lucky enough to get in to the union. Did apprenticeship and knew - after a few weeks in - that I wanted my license and own business. We'll ....many years later and a college degree in between I did it. Bought a sewer cleanin' machine early on and worked my way thru college handling SH(*^*%%$$@%$#%%$)_!!@#@4. It don't turn me on much but The money was good. ALWAYS have tried to better myself - usually pushing the envelope and getting bogged down, but I keep going and learning new stuff every day. I cut my teeth on the High Rises of NYC, done lots of jobbing, The Steam was/is a whole 'nother quest. Now it is learning the finer points of hydronics and controls. Nope!!!! NEVER bored, ALWAYS challenging myself with new things. It IS!!! A great trade...its the "other" stuff that can get to ya. The Pipe........has always been my friend. Doing it exactly 20 years now.
