stupid question time how many installers add a pic up factor when sizing steam boilers I am looking at a job that has 346sq. feet of steam based on the radiators there is 25 ft of 2in steam pipes running thru out the basement all pipes are insulated can I just use the built in pickup factor from the manufacterer?

Personally I wound not ad any pick up other than the manufacturers already built in 1.33. That's 33% above the load. Why add more??
Unless there is unusual piping, or a really large domestic load or uninsulated piping (you already mentioned it was insulated) then maybe??
Chances are if you do a heat loss calc. the building probably has more radiation than it needs to be adequatly heated and the boiler selected probably does not match the connected EDR exactly so.................
pick-up factor-- plus more radiation than needed--and closest boiler selection larger than connected load= plenty of fudge already. Don't want to be way oversized.

Ed, go with the manufacturer's
EDR ratings. Unless you can see that a lot of radiation was removed- then you might want to add a bit for the now-oversized piping.
